Information About This Unit
Description of Learning Unit:
In this unit, you will read the story "The Rainbow Fish" with your child. By working on story comprehension and learning to differentiate between fact and opinion, your child will understand the story and the language arts concept for the week. Your child will also be introduced to the sight words "clean, cut and done." This unit also includes worksheets, videos, games, activities, puzzles and coloring pages. This unit is designed to last for one week, depending on how often you teach language arts.
List of Objectives:
- Read the story "The Rainbow Fish."
- Be introduced to the concept of fact or opinion.
- Learn to tell the difference between fact and opinion.
- Learn the following sight words: clean, cut, done.
List of Materials and Supplies Needed for This Pathway:
Story Comprehension Worksheet:
- Printer
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Coffee filter (we use the brown kind, but white ones work, too)
- Children's markers (ex. Crayola)
- Water
- Wiggly eyes or paper eyes
- Tin foil
- A toilet paper roll
- A printer
- Something to color with
- Scissors
- Glue
- And paper (I prefer construction paper)
- Paper and a printer (stiff paper works best - colored paper is also great for this project)
- Crayons and/or markers
- Tape
- Thread
- Scissors
- Optional: pipe cleaners (great for seaweed and coral), glitter, (for great bubbles), thin cardboard to glue to the back of the animals if your paper is very flimsy, (old cereal boxes work well)
