Life skills are practical human skills people use to handle common situations and be successful in everyday life. When you teach children life skills, you give them the tools they need to grow towards independence. Once learned, these skills carry children through life, giving them a firm foundation for making decisions, handling responsibility, managing money, being respectful of others, establishing and maintaining positive relationships, and staying safe. Essentially, children need these skills to take on ever-increasing responsibility for themselves as they grow older and eventually to leave the nest and lead productive lives as adults.
The following list includes just some of the topics that are included in life skills education:

We hope you will contribute to our community by sharing your knowledge and expertise. For example, you might create a Pathway about managing an allowance, earning money, balancing chores with fun time, being organized, preventing accidents at home, being respectful of others, controlling anger, bullying, or saying no to drugs. This is just a list of possibilities to get you started. We want to hear your ideas!
