Information About This Unit
Description of Learning Unit:
In this unit, you and your child will first read the story "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" together. While reading, you can start the process of site learning the words "a, and, and away" with your child. By combining the use of puppets, comprehension questions, and an edible re-telling diorama, your child will be able to retell the story and demonstrate his/her knowledge of the direction words "on,under and over." This unit is designed to last one week, depending on how often you teach language arts. .jpg)

- Create an alternative ending with a puppet show.
- Be able to demonstrate directions: on, over, and under.
- Learn the sight words: a, and, and away.
List of Materials and Supplies Needed for This Pathway:
Three Billy Goats Gruff and Troll Puppets:
- Printer
- Crayons or markers
- Staples
- Posterboard
- Glue
- Decorations: fabric scraps, pipe cleaners, buttons, etc.
- Scissors
- 1 small paper plate
- 1 knife
- 1 spoonful of chunky peanut butter (dirt)
- 1 spoonful of coconut (colored green for grass)
- 1 large Frito (bridge)
- 3 marshmallows (goats)
- 1 purple grape (troll)
- ½ of a blue Fruit Roll-Up (water/stream)
- Printer
- Paper
- Scissors
- Coffee cans wrapped in paper (to make them look pretty)
- Sight words written out on cards for each coffee can
- 3 cards per can with the word Bang! written on them
- Printer
- Paper
- Scissors
- Playdough
Cream Cheese Recipe:
- 8oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup non fat dry milk powder
- 1 tablespoon honey
Or
Peanut Butter Recipe:
- 18oz creamy peanut butter
- 6 tablespoons of honey
- 3/4 cup non fat dry milk powder
Printables:
- Printer
- Paper
- Crayons, pencil or pen
