What is a Pathway?

The Internet contains a goldmine of resources for the homeschooler and classroom teacher. However, finding the information you need quickly and efficiently can be difficult, and putting it together to form a comprehensive study of a topic can be even more time-consuming. LessonPathways.com provides an easy way to take the hassle out of using the Web for homeschooling or classroom teaching.

A Pathway is a unique learning unit that contains a prescreened selection of Internet resources, which together cover a particular topic. Each Pathway provides a multisensory learning experience, enabling children to learn from a variety of reading materials, hands-on projects, games, online activities, and videos. Many Pathways also include audio resources, e-books, and reference pages for those who want to delve even deeper into a topic. Pathway resources are prescreened to ensure that they are age-appropriate and informative, and each one is developed to appeal to various learning styles.

LessonPathways.com provides unique Pathways in each of the core subjects: history, language arts, math, and science. Reading and phonics Pathways are provided for Years K through 2. You'll also find a Guided Journey for each core subject in Years K through 5. Each core Guided Journey lists 36 Pathways--one for each week of learning. To understand how this works, consider a textbook that has 36 chapters. Each Pathway of a Guided Journey is like a chapter in a book.

As you browse through our Guided Journeys, you'll find the Pathways organized in a logical order, helping children to build on their knowledge as they go along. However, Pathways can be used in any order you prefer. This means you can complete Pathway #20 and then go on to do Pathway #1, much in the way you might read Chapter 20 in a textbook before Chapter 1. As a subscriber, you'll have access to our handy online planning tool that makes it easy to plan Pathways in whatever order most suits your child's needs.

LessonPathways.com can be used as a complete online curriculum or as a supplement. Here are some of your options:

   1. Use LessonPathways.com as your curriculum, completing one Pathway per subject each week. This would mean completing one history Pathway, one language arts Pathway, one math Pathway, and once science Pathway each week.

   2. Use LessonPathways.com as a supplement for your homeschool or classroom, completing Pathways as desired to enhance your current curriculum. For example, you might use our George Washington unit to supplement your history curriculum, or you might use the activities in our math units to help your students better understand the concepts they are learning from your arithmetic program.

   3. You can also use LessonPathways.com for some subjects and not others. You might choose Pathways for language arts and science, for example, and use other curriculum choices for math and history.

What About Grade Levels?

Our Guided Journeys do list recommended grade levels. However, these grade levels are simply provided as guidelines. You may find that your students' needs and preferences make it more sensible to select Year 1 Math along with Year 2 Science, rather than selecting one grade level across the board. Lesson Pathways allows you to customize your online educational experience, even if you are working with several children across multiple grades.
