Use this counting activity to help your child understand the concept of place value to 1,000.

Start counting! Count out 10 kernels in each of the 10 cups to make 100. Place the 100 kernels in one of the bowls. Continue to fill the "hundred" bowls until you have 10, and then place the kernels from the bowls into the gallon bag to show what a thousand is. After you have demonstrated the thousand kernels, write the number 1,111 on a piece of paper in expanded form and put the kernel, cup, bowl and bag next to each number to show your child what it would look like in written form.
