The Gingerbread Man

Description of Learning Unit:

In this unit, you will read the story "The Gingerbread Man" with your child. By working on story comprehension, predicting what will happen next in the story, and creating a fun gingerbread man chain, your child will gain an understanding of the story and the language arts concept for the week. Your child will also learn the sight words: but, did, and came. This unit also includes online games, videos, and coloring pages. This unit is designed to last for one week, depending on how often you teach language arts.

Read "The Gingerbread Man" with your child and discuss the story.

Have your child arrange the picture cards to create the story of "The Gingerbread Man" from beginning to end.

Re-read "The Gingerbread Man" and predict what happens next.

Have your child play this fun game and decorate the gingerbread man.

Make a string of gingerbread men and women to decorate a room.

Introduce your child to the sight words: but, did, came. You can either use store bought cards, make your own, or print them from the link below.

Play the run away sight word game.

Language Arts Concepts - What Happens Next:

Predict how "The Butterfly Story" will end.

Have you child color a picture of what he or she thinks will happen next in each picture.

This activity will help your child predict what might have happened to the gingerbread man if he had made different choices in the story.

Have your child make and color the story "The Gingerbread Man."

Look at each picture. Then underline the sentence that predicts what will happen next.
